According to analyses presented by Daniel Kendzior and Charles Hosner from Accenture, attackers are using autonomous AI systems that scan networks, detect vulnerabilities, and deploy customized malware in a matter of minutes, completely surpassing any human manual response capability.

A critical documented example is the instant creation of hyper-personalized and massive phishing emails using generative AI, resulting in a 40% increase in successful incidents. In light of this reality, the Global Cybersecurity Outlook report from the World Economic Forum highlights that 87% of the surveyed organizations believe the risk from AI vulnerabilities has significantly increased. Additionally, there is the proliferation of shadow AI (unauthorized use of AI by employees), a factor that, according to Gartner projections, will be linked to a substantial share of corporate security breaches by the end of the decade.

The roadmap to resilience: Three strategic horizons

To build an infrastructure capable of continuously absorbing and neutralizing these attacks, a phased transformation scheme is proposed:

  2. Enhancing advanced capabilities: Once the foundation is secured, the organization's ecosystem must incorporate automation capabilities for detecting complex exploits, prioritizing critical vulnerabilities, and mitigating alert fatigue among security analysts.
  3. Reinventing cybersecurity with defensive agents: The ultimate horizon consists of deploying autonomous AI agents that operate proactively. These systems can intelligently manage identity control and even automate complex tasks, such as reviewing security contracts (a process they can streamline by 80%) and continuously simulating attacks through coordinated penetration testing.

From the next+ perspective, this alliance of guidelines confirms that cybersecurity in the era of AI has ceased to be a series of technical containment measures and has become a factor of corporate survival. The success of leaders will no longer be measured by their ability to prevent incidents (an unfeasible scenario in the current context) but by how quickly their autonomous systems can adapt, respond, and keep business operations running after a breach.
